MindBlown Labs CEO Joins Presidential Advisory Council

OAKLAND, CA, May 29, 2014 – President Obama recently announced the appointment of Jason Young, Co-Founder and CEO of MindBlown Labs, to his special Advisory Council on Financial Capability for Young Americans. MindBlown Labs is an Oakland education technology startup that has developed a cutting edge solution to financial illiteracy for teens and young adults – a fun, mobile, financial capability game called Thrive ‘n’ Shine (beta is free to download in App Store and Google Play Store). Jason Young’s appointment to this prestigious council is a testament to both his passion for empowering young adults to make financially responsible decisions and the innovative nature of the solution that MindBlown Labs has developed (see Thrive 'n' Shine trailer).

Jason Young, CEO of MindBlown Labs, said, “I am honored by this appointment. I have had an intense passion for financial capability since my family was evicted from our home during the winter break of my sophomore year at Harvard. Now, I am working with my team at MindBlown Labs to empower 20,000,000 teens and young adults to become financially capable by the year 2020. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to achieve this goal alongside some of the foremost thinkers and leaders in this field.”

The special advisory council includes individuals considered thought leaders and trailblazers in business, government, education, and technology, such as Education Secretary Arne Duncan, Treasury Secretary Jack Lew, Director of the CFPB Richard Cordray, and CEO of Girl Scouts USA Anna Maria Chávez. The Council is chaired by John Rogers, CEO of Ariel Investments. Its charge is to “advise the President and the Secretary of the Treasury on how to promote financial capability among young Americans and encourage building the financial capability of young people at an early stage in schools, families, communities, and the workplace and through use of technology.”
